We are pretty much the same latitude as Sri Lanka. Actually, at around 5°, we are a few degrees closer to the equator. Consequently, most of the vegetation is the same. Also, after decades of the influence of south-Asian cooking, common ingredients are cultivated and used.
Although we use the large supermarket chains, it is also nice to help out little vendors who might be making some spare cash from a garden plot.

After an afternoon nap, we realized we'd not used our weekly transit passes, so we set our goal to find the Queensbay Mall. It is the island's biggest mall, and lived up to that boast. First, we took our normal bus to the BJ Complex and then caught a 401E.

We bought a few things in the anchor supermarket, Aeon. We saw the Christmas decorations but, honestly, I can't see much need to return. I see that a lot of young people go to just hang out. Actually, when coming back to our own neighbourhood we found much more compatible shopping.
We'd heard from our neighbour that there is a Monday night market in our area. As we were coming back at around 7:00 PM, it was going strong and many vendors were still setting up. This was more our type of place to make purchases. We found nearly everything from food to electrical items to pants.
