Going Where Mangoes Grow

Buying a winter-vacation property doesn't make much financial sense for us. Firstly, when one buys foreign real estate, there are a whole lot of maintenance and tax implications. We can avoid these by simply renting for five or six months per year. Secondly, we enjoy exploring new places and aren't ready to settle down by heading to just one destination every winter.


Sri Lanka is working to become an upper middle-income country.
Those points are certainly valid but I do have funds I could put to work. Money is still far too cheap and for the last decade, banks have hardly paid enough interest to make it worth using one. Furthermore, I've always had a secret goal to own my own place near a grove of coconut trees.

I do find it fun to look around online to see what is available. 'Internet daydreaming' feels rewarding enough, I guess.
