It is funny what one can become used to and how quickly too. Today, we went to the Tuesday Market in El Qurna as we have every other week since getting here in mid-November. Our van-type bus always passes right by the Colossi but now they hardly merit a glance.
These massive statues are only four or so kilometers away but were built 3,400 years ago. They are the only thing left of the ancient temple of King Amenhotep III. Today, I remembered to click a photo from the open door as we went by them. In other places we have lived, it's not been routine to go past monuments which have been standing in the same place since 1350 BC.
