Just as Egyptians do, we got there by taking a normal passenger van. We paid the same £1 as other passengers and had a chance to ride with around a dozen locals. We caught it right at the bus terminal. We had to wait a few minutes before it left as most of the others had just gotten off the public ferryboat. As soon as a vehicle fills up; it's on its way.
There were undoubtedly more sellers and shoppers than during our first and only other trip to El Qurna the week we got here. In addition to the fruit, vegetables, and live animals, we noticed a larger number of household items for sale. It is all sort of haphazardly arranged in the usually empty, dusty lot.
Jay bought a lot of fruit and vegetables, mostly a kilo of each type. These spring to mind: eggplant, onions, carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, guava, and tomatoes. All totaled, we spent £80, or a bit over $US 10. We definitely have enough to last the week, and we do eat many more vegetables than most others. A kilogram of Hungarian peppers is a lot for two people! When leaving, we saw a guy frying falafel, and brought some home as well.
