Nights are cool, so running errands is best done either in the cool of the mornings or evenings. This morning we again took the public ferryboat to return to our bank's ATM. We got wads of Egyptian £200 notes for our winter of renting at the villa. Getting over to the point opposite us on the West Bank of the river takes almost 40 minutes. We have been refusing taxis or the khalish, horse carriage trips. All this walking is why I've been hitting my Mi Band goals every day.
While walking along the corniche on the way back from the ATM, we stopped so I could take a picture of our area from across the river. Ah, this is why I went with a dedicated camera rather than just my cell phone: zoom! One cannot really see our little two storey villa. There's just a faint hint of blue paint on this side of the four-story building to the right of center frame. We're hidden by the riverside foliage.
After getting off the public ferryboat on our side of the river, we walked out to an electronic and appliance shop we'd seen the other day. We got there before 10:00 AM and had to wait a bit for it to open. As we are staying five months, we decided to buy a microwave oven for use here. Jay cooks ahead a lot of the time and we are accustomed to the convenience of using one. They are not, however, commonly used by the Egyptian people. Because of this, there was not a good selection available. We will probably buy from a larger store on the West Bank. As we walked back to our place, we did buy a few groceries. There are many items to buy when starting from scratch; for example, we got both olives and vanilla powder.
In the evening we took a walk past the public Ferryboat along our side of the Nile. We didn't go far. Civilization has been right here in this spot since humans invented the concept.
