A Bit of Canadiana

Tomorrow is Canada Day! So, it's time for a fact or two for those not fortunate enough to live in the Great White North. We have had a $2 bi-metal coin for 18 years. The only reason I can remember this fact is because it's the same year we arrived here to live. As on all the national coins, the Queen is on the face side ...



... but the Royal Canadian Mint has given her a bear behind! (Of course, in writing this little quip doesn't have quite the clever impact as when simply spoken.)



Our one-buck coin has a loon on the back and is called a Loonie; therefore, because of its $2 value, this is known as a Toonie. Maybe this is because calling one a Polar Bearie wouldn't quite roll off the tongue.
