We arranged to have a driver take us from Wadi Musa to downtown Amman via The King's Highway. It is part of the ancient Nabatean Incense Route. It is cited in a Biblical passage. People have been travelling along the road for probably at least 5,000 years. We left though the mountains near Petra and down along the Dead Sea. Finally, we climbed back up into Amman, the capital.

There are many historic stops along the way but we opted just to travel the route. We, therefore, didn't stop to swim in the Dead Sea although we might do so from "the other side" in Israel. Our driver wasn't really happy to have to drive us right into modern, downtown Amman as this city has seen a lot of growth and traffic can be frustrating. Nevertheless, we uneventfully arrived in around four and a half hours passing though some spectacular scenery.

We didn't make reservations but knew the names of hotels near this Roman Theatre. We found the Jordan Tower Hotel very easily and arranged to spend two nights. We have a free day just to walk around the ancient center of this sprawling city.
