The Fusion Festival in Surrey over the weekend reminded me of that. We hopped onto the SkyTrain to take the Expo line to the terminus. That is right by Holland Park and the end of the weekend of multicultural events. Starting at 9:00 pm there was a tribute to Bollywood. It was, in reality, a bit heavy on the Punjabi side. Anything can be and perhaps should be modified to suit the local environment, I guess.
Surely, New Westminster, has it's share of transplants. I'd say this is fairly obvious in the gardens as well as in the homes. Endemic and native garden species are popular plants if one's got outside space. Yet, other plants are fun to showcase too. I marvel at the large number of banana trees I see about town. Of course, they're a less common sight than during last winter in Sri Lanka and Indochina.
I captured this image on my uptown walk on Third Street today. It is in sepia as everyone knows the colour of a banana tree.
