I remember when the Bank of Ceylon was the tallest building. You can see it (directly behind Jay's head) and the taller World Trade Center towers which weren't completed until 1996.
Some parts of the Fort look, sound, and feel nearly identical. Furthermore, the Galle Face Green, a promenade by the sea has been there substantially before I laid foot here as it was laid out in the 1850's in, then, British Ceylon. Also the crush of people, sweaty temperatures, and its never quite being complete never changes.
We left Nugegoda at around 9:00 am on bus #168. We walked the port, down Galle Face, and took a short bus back to the Pettah area. We looked around, ate lunch, and had passport photos taken. We caught the 2:30 showing of Karma, a film festival winner from Sri Lanka. It certainly was festival fare as it was thought provoking but utilized techniques that just about drove me up the nearest wall. Oh, and the Regal is in deplorable condition.
In the three years since the last time in Colombo for the day, I completely forgot how much work getting back on the buses is and how very much I appreciated a shower upon returning.
