I found an old archive of computer files. Always the saver, I had compiled files from older storage media onto a duel-layer DVD in 2007. It contained personal data from as far back as 1986 and my first IBM-PC compatible bought in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Many of the oldest files were once saved on ancient 360K floppy discs (which really were floppy at the time). I have all my correspondence from those days in WordStar format. Oh my! Microsoft Word has no auto-conversion for that! For some reason the 25K WS.COM file won't run under Windows 8 either.
Thoughout the years, files accumulated quickly. I seem to have been fairly good at backing up data. For example, the picture above was in a folder called,
E:/Master Backup 1987-2007/1999_05/archives/Old Archives/Dammam/VGA Screens,
meaning that I first saved it in 1988. I remember distinctly how impressed I was seeing the new-fangled VGA screens at a computer store in Jeddah. I must have moved from CGA to the amazing 8-bit colour because of pictures such as this. The BMP file above was actually only 320x200 pixels and weighed in at a whopping 63K. It surely seemed pretty eye-popping back in its day. (I had to double it to make it fit in this column of text.)
Now it, with all the other old junk, lives on my Microsoft SkyDrive. I am not sure what I can put on the remaining 21GB of cloud storage though.
