It's No Wonder I Usually Stick to JPG!

Video is such a hassle to work with. I suppose getting it online would make it more convenient than struggling with it on other formats and media.

I have had a video camera since the 1980's but precious little of all that footage is available for viewing on demand That's a little sad. We were looking to locate some video from our Sri Lanka trip in 2009 for some folks who are invited to dinner tomorrow.

At that point, we already owned the Panasonic HD camcorder. I never really liked the camera though. For example, our first camera of twenty years prior, used to take stunning low-light videos. The idea of having the data directly on an SD card sounded great until I learned the Blu-ray compatible MTS format chops each scene onto it's own tiny file. The propitiatory editing software was awful, bulky, and awkward and now I've lost the disc and key and cannot even re-purchase a copy of it. As a default, my PlayStation 3 will play the video directly from the SD card but swapping off to a hard drive only worked with raw footage. If edited, I've just discovered, it doesn't!

So now, I am wasting part of the day trying to copy all the separate 150 files of one card to YouTube so that I can try to combine them using it's built-in editor. Ugh! I guess this is no harder than trying to use an old capture card to move off from 8mm tape onto a hard drive and then to DVD. I think I only managed that with a tiny fraction of the hours of tape that is somewhere in the apartment.

If all the video we've ever taken could all be magically thrown on YouTube, I'd be one happy puppy. Here's a several minute segment I found of Jay, his sister, and I climbing Yapahuwa rock in Sri Lanka in 2006. It must have been converted to mpeg before uploading from an analog camera.
