Dumping Video onto YouTube

In an offhand comment in yesterday's blog, I mentioned how nice it would be to have all the years of our video available on YouTube. Physical media seems so yesterday. Once online it is available anywhere and on any screen on the Internet. Flickr taught me this as I can do a search and instantly come up with any specific picture I can recall.



First off, I'll upload all the HD that is now sitting on an external backup drive. It'll take a while though. Just getting half of one 8 GB SD card took all night long. I'm pretty sure YouTube throttles uploads. That's okay as I rather like the idea of making use of my broadband connection when I'm sleeping. After, due to the silly MTS format, I'll have hundreds of files which then must be combined in their editor just 50 short clips at a time.

I won't worry about all the Sony 8mm tape for a while yet! Also, I think I'll just get raw stuff there. I can always work (or not work) with any of it once it is available in my own video cloud.
