Summer doesn't unofficially kick in until later in the month. In Canada, Victoria Day is the long weekend before US Memorial Day. Although it is still a bit early, it seemed to me that active weekends have returned. It has to do with the blessing of sunshine. In the next four months, it is as if everybody has to pack in a year full of weekends. We didn't participate in the BMO marathon or even make it to downtown Vancouver today. Rather, we drove to Richmond.
Jay wanted to visit a temple as it is Vesak in Sri Lanka. We visited the larger International Buddhist Temple based on the designs of Chinese Forbidden City in Beijing. I used the GPS to locate another in Steveston which has Japanese roots and has been operating there since 1928. We just looked inside and found it designed with seating almost like a church.
As long as we were so close to downtown Steveston, we parked at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site of Canada parking lot and walked to Fisherman's Wharf. We'd heard it's white spot prawn season but that boat didn't get in until 3:00 pm and as it was only 12:30 we went away empty handed. When returning home, we also stopped at a Tibetan Buddhist Temple on No. 5 Road. Driving back along the Westminster Highway was enjoyable in the sunshine.
