I have to admit I have quickly remembered why it's been so long since I last taught on Saturdays and Sundays. Not only is it very tiring, but losing free time on the weekend is discouraging. I find life hard when schedules don't match up. Because of this, I'm spending more time than during other years wondering what special thing we can do over the Christmas break. Having just a few days off means we'll have to do something quite near. A mini road-trip is exactly what I will need.
Within a day we could go as far south as Portland, OR. We could take the ferry and go westward over to the Island. Heading east to Calgary would be a bit far, but we could go over the closest ranges of mountains and get to the Okanagan. Actually, that's a very good idea. I wouldn't mind watching the dramatic change in scenery as we head to the drier environment. We spent one of our very first Christmases in Canada near its only pocket desert.
