We called Delta Airlines just to make sure that when flying overseas, there's still free, check-in baggage allowed. A representative confirmed, though we're on a domestic flight from Seattle to JFK, one bag per passenger flies gratis as long as it is checked through to our destination of Malaga, Spain. Okay, that's good.
I was thinking how travelling long-haul has changed over the years. At one point, I used to try to check everything just to make it easier to get out of the plane quickly upon arrival. Then, there were years when I tried to put as much as possible with me in the cabin. I guess this was because I feared them loosing some luggage. Then after 9/11, everything had to go into checked baggage or they'd take away my tiny bottle of aftershave thinking it might be able to bring the whole aircraft down. (Still any glass wine bottle from first class, if broken on the edge of a seat offered a weapon capabile of slitting a throat in an instant.) Now, airlines are piling on expensive charges for checked bags. One might as well buy clothes at the destination!
I guess, in the near future, it'll probably be easiest to fly naked and without any luggage.
