Today I was thinking how various aspects of my job have changed during the last 28 years. Of course I'm now teaching adults whereas my first students were only 8 years old. That's not the change I was focusing on though.

This morning I had the media PC on. I was also logged on to BCIT on my notebook. I was in the middle of completing the evaluations for the class which finished last Friday. As well as checking the message-board assignments and video clip answers kept on BCIT net-storage, I was listening to individually-recorded audio files. My students had answered questions under timed conditions in the computer lab. They had uploaded their files to net-storage and I downloaded onto my home PC. I listened carefully to each answer while marking it for completeness and accuracy.
I plugged my scores into the online grade book of our institute. After I had entered all the data, including attendance, I submitted the final marks for processing. I then ran several queries on our reporting system so that I could email the results to our program assistant. Lastly, I sent out a congratulatory email to passing students.
My first teaching job in Kuwait took place just about one month after the release of the IBM PC in August 1981. Today, I had to run much computer equipment in order to do my tasks. I rely constantly on computers during actual teaching time and for adminstrative functions nowadays.
