I am damned disappointed. When I was a youngster, I thought by the year 2009 I would be able to teleport to other places on earth and beyond. The sci-fi fantasy of stepping into a chamber and being beamed to an alternate location seemed worthy of becoming the
'next big thing'. To be de-molecularized, shot across vast distances, and re-assembled at a microscopic level did sound a little scary, but boarding a 750,000 pound Boeing 747 and managing to fly through the air across the ocean would've sounded pretty far-fetched at the turn of the last century as well. Yet, those metal beasts entered commercial use in 1970.
Today teleportation sounds very environmentally-friendly although I suppose it'd take substantial amounts of electricity to accomplish the task. Still, out here in BC, as a fair amount of the province's power comes from hydro, I'd definitely be reducing my carbon footprint were it to come to pass.
Lunch at a Paris bistro, anybody? Or perhaps a pizza in the Cinque Terra town of Manorola, Italy?
