It's always fun to meet a new class. Not only do the individuals differ but each group has its own personality. It's a bit too early to come up with many words to describe this one. I might venture adjectives such as 'loud' or phrases like 'easily distracted'. The first is really not a problem as there doesn't seem to be other classes going on in the hall outside. The second attribute will just force me to often rein in the group to keep them on task.
I do, sort of, continue to love teaching. Even after all these years, it can be a pleasurable pursuit. I am aware that a lot of people don't feel that way about their work, so I feel fortunate. I'm more confident in the classroom nowadays. I can be flexible and see how an activity can lead to the 'bigger picture'. The process of seeing students acquire new skills remains humbling. I am sure I'm one of those teachers who is much more interested in the process than the content.
I'll be with these students until the final exam which takes place on May 8th.
