I say, "I live where we don't get snow." Then I must answer, "Yes, I live in Canada." I continue by adding, "We're right on the west coast and are affected by the Pacific Ocean." "Yes, there's a lot of participation but it mostly falls as rain." For added impact I offer, "We are hounded by storms nicknamed the 'Pineapple Express' as they line up over Hawaii and bring that weather towards us in Vancouver." I say these things often to people not acquainted with my life here.
Then with an apparent goal of negating it all, as soon a snow falls from the sky, I grab my camera. It's an occasion suitable for capturing images. Then I post examples of the white stuff all around on Flickr and my blog.
No wonder my far-away friends continue to be confused!
