After looking it over, I've come to the conclusion that this is the target level to which I should always aim the language of this blog!
Dear Isuru,
It was really great when we got our packet of information from World Vision with your name and picture. My name is Dennis Hurd. I am in Vancouver, Canada. My friend Jayantha is also here and we both decided to write letters to you. What are the names of your friends?
I work as a teacher. I teach English to people who know other languages. Currently, all my students are adults who have finished high school. Some of them have come to live in Canada while others have just come to study here. Do you like school?
Some people think that Canada has lots of snow in the winter. But because we live near the water, the Pacific Ocean, we do not usually have too much. It is not as warm as your weather in Sri Lanka though. Today it is about 10 degrees but it will be only 3 degrees tonight. In the summer months it gets much warmer here.
I used to teach in the Gulf countries of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. There are lots of people from Sri Lanka who work in those places.
I have even visited your country. I first went 18 years ago. And again last year, I went back. I travelled with Jayantha. We went to different parts of your country last September and October. We had a very nice time there. I liked seeing lots of elephants because they only live in zoos in Canada. What is your favourite kind of animal?
I hope you are happy now. Do you like to draw pictures? I would really like to see one of them someday. I look forward to hearing about you too. Give greetings to your mother.
Bye for now,
