Day 117 of Our Winter: Leaving a place after living there for the better part of a winter is a process. We have started packing and doing all the last-minute things required when accomplishing a spring return to British Columbia. Tomorrow will hold the very last breakfast in Sri Lanka for quite some time. We will probably visit elsewhere for the Winter of 2026-27.
Jay's sisters are ensuring we get the full treatment Sri Lankan breakfasts this week. Above was yesterday's morning meal with Sri Lankan hoppers and this morning we had traditional milk rice. We frequently do another staple morning with 'roast pan', a unique form of bread known all over Sri Lanka. On ordinary mornings we do traditional toaster slices. Only places in the world where the British have had an influence are toasters found. When spending winters, even in Mexico, we had to equip the Airbnb with a cheap kitchen toaster.
The wonderful thing about breakfast here is the choice of plentiful fruit. We feast on much more than bananas, although some of those come right front the garden outside. We can get passion fruit, mangoes, papaya, pineapples, and watermelon any and every day.
