Day 119 of Our Winter: Nothing about getting to Hong Kong was out of the ordinary; it was just exhausting. The flight to BKK was around three hours and ten minutes. Then, we had an hour and fifty minutes to catch the connection Thai Airways flight here. That was cutting it a little close as Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi is vastly over capacity. The lines for transfer were really long for both getting through security and the vast distances inside the airport. When getting on the connecting flight I was pulled aside to walked down to the ground level with security to open my checked bag. I had my tiny drone batteries in the luggage. I had to remove and put them in my pocket to fly in the cabin. I also had a magnetic powerbank for my Pixel phone, the type that just snaps to the back of the phone to supply extra power. That was not allowed in the luggage or in the cabin. They took it. Grrr.
The second flight was just two hours and ten minutes. We took an Uber into Kawloon and directly to the door of the Stanford Hotel. We checked in 1:30 pm. The time is two and a half hours ahead of Sri Lankan time. As we got little sleep last night, we had an afternoon nap, but then that is often standard practice.
We walked around the busy Mongkok area near the hotel. The sun sets at 6:30 pm at present but it was a rather overcast afternoon. It didn't rain while we were napping. We didn't leave much time for sightseeing as we have to board our cruise ship on Sunday morning. It has been exactly twenty years since we stayed and toured Hong Kong. It is a vibrant city. It has good connections to Vancouver. The last photo is our hotel when coming back in after dinner.
