Day 16 - We awoke an hour late and that continued throughout the entire day. We're an hour ahead now that we're in Bulgaria. Even after two weeks we got used to the previous time zone. Now our clocks are the same as in Helsinki and Cairo.
The breakfast at our hotel was very nice. We talked with the receptionist and decided to go find transit passes as trams run fairly near out hotel right around the two kilometer old town area. Namely, we'll take #12 and #18 when heading out. We will probably check out the subway metro system eventually too. A lady in the tourist office tram pointed us right to the office and we picked up two 3-day passes for a total of around US $15.
We used them! We did end up putting on a lot of steps though too. It seems like 11 km is the average daily walking on this whole trip so far! We saw the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathederal. On our outings we saw other important buildings.
Lunch was at a local place selling cafeteria style Balkan foods.
Later in evening we took the trams again to Vitosha Boulevard, a famous pedestrian street in the heart of Sophia. We stopped for quick Thai food in a restaurant with tables along the street. Our normal 8 o'clock dinner time has shifted to 9:00 pm.
We will be heading to bed later than we were used to. Hey, we'll be in the time zone until we got back to Canada near the end of the month, so there's no need to change!
