Day 17 - We are still in exploratory mode. Today, we took a tram and decided to see one of the five Metro Subway Lines. We discovered they go fast and far from downtown, so we got out at a few stations but quickly headed back to downtown Sofia.
We visited a few sections of town. We had McDonald ice cream cones in the Sofa Mall. We then went to check out the park where Saturday's gay pride parade will both start and finish. We walked past palaces and churches, tram and bus lines, and restaurants and shops.
We generally tried to 'get a feel' of the city. I have to say, Sofia is an intriguing city. I base my judgement about whether I'd like to return at a later date and spend some time. Today, moved me closer to a sure vote.
With easy tram access it is hard NOT to head to Vitosha Street come evening. We did but didn't eat in one of the restaurants. Rather, we picked up some bread, cheese, chips and dip in a Lidl market to bring back to the hotel. I opened a $3 bottle of wine from Tempranillo grapes to sip. Life doesn't have to cost a lot of money. I probably spent a lot less today than if I were at home. I surely saw new and different things and gained unique perspectives.
