Last week, Jay was reading the newspaper as we still get the Vancouver Sun delivered daily. In the obituaries, he noticed the name of an old friend we'd met years ago here. We hadn't really visited with Rob since retirement and it was a shock to see he had passed away.
Today, we attended the funeral mass at the Polish Catholic Parish in Vancouver. I drove using the GPS to find Saint Casimir's. Some mutual friends of Rob joined us for the service. It started at 11:00 am. It was somber but in some ways felt fitting, even though Rob didn't seem a very religious man.
As it finished at lunch time, We and the friends drove up Kingsway. That busy highway is packed with ethnic restaurants. Because of the easy parking, we stopped at a Chinese dim sum restaurant and shared the bill between the five of us.
It started raining as we headed back to New Westminster along Kingsway.
