Day 5 - The Berlin Zoo opened 180 years ago! It is home to the largest variety of animals of any zoo in the world. There are more than 20,000 animals of more than 1300 species.
It was a beautiful Saturday in which the temperature reached 26C. We decided it'd be a perfect chance to see the world-renown zoo. We walked to the U2 transit line and got off in four stops.
The animals looked happy. These penguins reminded us of our time walking between them in the Falkland Islands. Today's birds were hanging out near the snow machine. We, of course, are familiar with many of the animals types. Capybaras are my perennial zoo favourite. Today's zoo had one of the best collection and display of birds that I've ever seen too.
We got online tickets before heading out today and they included the Aquarium too. It was right at the edge of the zoo. Although it was an old museum-type building, the displays were stunning. After, we left and went for a late lunch at Bikini Berlin, a revamped retro mall from the 1950s.
So many folks were out in the sunshine strolling around the zoo. I will remember watching the young families and groups of folks as much as the animals we saw.
