Old Kottawa Rd.

Day 74 - Jay's sister's house is on a quiet lane; however, we frequently walk past the Mirihana Police Station to Old Kottawa Road. This evening, Jay and I walked eastward rather than going to the normal junction. We wanted a little exercise as we were rather chill today. We stopped at an older Keell's Supermarket and looked around. We bought a few things including some cheap batteries for the blood-pressure monitor. 

The road is a major urban route and is usually quite crowded. Today, being Sunday, the traffic was a bit quieter. This is a three-day weekend because tomorrow is an official holiday. Tomorrow is the start of the Thai Pongal for the Sri Lankan Tamils. This island is predominately Buddhist but has a sizeable population of Sri Lankan Tamils, Moslems, and Christians.  All religions are represented in its official public holidays. 

Few countries in the world have more official holidays per year than Sri Lanka with a plentiful 25 days.
