The disease runs in families. Therefore, I've always been told I should be periodically tested. Now, technology has made living with diabetes much, much easier. I marvel at the continuous monitoring devices and insulin pumps used nowadays.
I knew I could comfortably get by with a monitor requiring a finger prick as I'd only use it occasionally. I think today's purchase was assured when I learned that most units now have Bluetooth and would sync up with an app on my phone. I got an Ascensia Contour nextGEN at Walmart. It took me much longer to figure out how to insert the lancet into the lancing device than it took for the device to display the results.
In Canada, mmol/L are the units used and my first results, a few hours after lunch, were 7.2. The bottom of the device lit up with a green glow to indicate the number was acceptable. How cool is that!
