Day 58 - We have a small problem; it happens to be a small bird problem.
It's hot in Sri Lanka, and in Nugegoda specifically. This single-storey structure, tucked in behind the Mirihana Police Station, gets warm as sun rays sit peacefully on the cement roof for a great part of the day. This is not the problem though as the windows and doors can stay open and a delightful breeze will blow through.
However, that leads to the crux of the present problem. Wild birds can easily come inside and check things out ... and they have. In fact, a pair of bulbuls are so taken with the place, that they've decided they want to raise their young in the living room. You see, there's a chandelier that'd make a great place to build a nest.
A number of times today, we've had to shoo away a twig-carrying bird from the light fixture. At times, both potential parents were inside inspecting their dream location.
It's not as if this is all without precedence. Several times in years past, some have successfully evaded dissuasion. This light has been an unlikely bird cradle in the past. It seems that once the baby birds hatch, the attending parents get a little more defensive and forget exactly whose house this is!
So, we are trying hard to prevent them from getting a toehold, or clawhold, inside this time around.
