Day 28 - Generally, I don't add photos of random strangers here; however, I thought this situation merited it. I don't know this guy but here's how I got his photo ...
Oops. Tried to use a Canon Kiosk at the Dubai 2020 Expo on Sunday. We stopped to see about it. As it suggested, I pointed my phone at the QR code displayed. We had been standing in front of the screen and thought it'd taken our picture. I chose a border for the image. My phone said it'd email the photo to me. I added it.
The machine mailed me the photo of the previous guy, I guess. I know nothing about him. Hope he doesn't mind a little free publicity.
This was our last normal, full day in Dubai. It hardly seems as though we've been here four weeks already!
We did get all our documentation in order to fly on EK650 to Colombo in the early morning hours of December 16th. There are entire new layers of distraction when flying during times of COVID. For example, we didn't get our negative PCR tests back until this morning. So, we weren't assured of passage to Sri Lanka until this morning. Subsequently, we needed to complete online Electronic Travel Authorization forms to have a visa waiting for us in Colombo. Additionally, it took a while to complete the forms and image uploads in order to speed through the medical part of the arrival in Sri Lanka. Our vaccination paperwork from Canada, yesterday's negative COVID PCR test, and photos of our passports needed to be uploaded online. Yay! We have a QR code as we met all the criteria with flying colours. Phew. I needed to rest this afternoon.
We spent a bit of time trying to figure out exactly how much we could take along as baggage. Returning always means extra packages when going back. As we discovered, we think, we have 40 KG on each ticket we purchased, we just got one of those infrared burners to take along. It seems as though Sri Lanka is going through big trouble with the gas cylinders people use for cooking. In recent weeks, hundreds have exploded and now people are afraid to use L.P.
Anyway, life is always fun and educational if you venture out of the confines of your tiny little space. You owe it to yourself to stop moping around.
