This morning on the way uptown, we took a little detour. We made a loop through the Sapperton neighbourhood of our city. First, however, we stopped to walk along part of the Brunette-Fraser Regional Greenway.
This area along the Fraser became a Metro Vancouver Regional park after the construction of the Millenium Line of our SkyTrain system. It's hard for us to acknowledge that was almost twenty years ago! We know this trail along the Fraser River as 'Hamster Park'. That is only because early in the 2000's we buried a hamster or two here. We have no private yard in our condo but wanted to give the deceased furry creature a suitable hole in the ground.
It was an enjoyable morning for a short 3K walk along the river. We got a better look at the place where the Pattullo Bridge's replacement will cross. The orange, ageing structure that opened in 1937 will be removed after a new span crosses to Surrey.
Sappterton Landing was pretty quiet except at a new business that now occupies the former BC Penitentiary Wharf Warehouse. New boats are being crafted at the location. How nice to see a positive development in the long-empty building!
