The guys came over at about three this afternoon. The outside air was less smoky than yesterday. We didn't even go for a walk.
Earlier this morning, I had thrown beer in our cooler and topped the cans with several bags of ice from Walmart. Most of the beers were 500ml cans from Central City Brewery. A few other cans ended up in the mix. One frozen jug in the bottom got everything cooled in time for everyone's arrival.
After appetizers, we went down to the swimming pool. The water is not heated much during the summertime, so it was a refreshing dip.
Jay worked on a usual meal for guests, sort of Sri Lankan style with a number of dishes. We talked for a long time and watched a bit of Youtube.
We missed these gatherings last year. In fact, the previous time this group was here was in August of 2019!
There are no stupid anti-vaxxers in the small crowd. We all realize that getting vaccinated is primarily for neighbours and society as a whole. I just cannot wrap my head around how some people make it into some twisted idea of personal freedom.
If one doesn't want to wear a motorcycle helmet, so be it. The head that gets smashed, in an accident, is the fool's alone. However, refusing a vaccination has implications for everyone one meets, those that they meet, and so on.
By demanding this 'freedom', these selfish folks are contributing to the continuation of COVID and naturally occurring variants that come from transmission. A misplaced sense of personal entitlement can unnecessarily rob the health and even life of others.
