We like a thick, hand-cut slice of wheat toast to accompany homemade soup. I love the smell while it's baking. The aroma fills the apartment and it was especially welcome as we had rain today. We've had such little rain lately, it really felt like a blessing to have grey skies and precipitation.
Here's a recipe I made from scratch to use in the duel-paddle Westbend. This is the most recent copy as it has gone through a number of revisions over the past couple of months:
Carnarvon Street Wheat Bread Recipe
Set the bread machine to 2.5 lb loaf, medium colour, wheat bread. Add the following to the machine in this order.
1 cup warm water1 tablespoon maple syrup, honey, or molasses1 tablespoon fruit juice, beer, coffee or other liquid3 tablespoons olive oil or butter4 tablespoons warmed milk or yogurt1 cup sourdough starter or discard1 cup white flour3 cups whole wheat flour2 teaspoons salt1.5 teaspoons yeast1 tablespoon vital wheat glutton3 tablespoons brown sugar
