We took a Sunday drive. I needed to give Kimchi's new EV battery a bit of a workout and we headed out the Fraser Valley with no particular plan. We didn't cross the Fraser River near home and instead took the Mary Hill Bypass and BC 7B /7. The day was beautiful and we kept passing through towns. I wondered if we'd ever driven around Mission, BC. So, we pulled off and drove through.
Then, we finally decided to cross the Fraser River. We had only passed the Golden Ears Bridge in the previous 40 kilometers. While still on the Mission Bridge, we noticed a river park area down on the Abbotsford side. We exited. So, this was the park we checked today. We walked a bit along the Fraser River Trail.
Running parallel, on the dyke, we noticed a section of the Trans-Canadian Trail. It was a wide expanse of gravel in this area. Looking toward the town of Abbotsford provided a bucolic view of farmland and the mountains. We only put on a few kilometers walking on it back to our car.
We headed back to Route 1 rather than crossing the Fraser River back to BC 7. That's also known as the Trans-Canadian Highway, and the only other route running east through the valley. It was, as usual, pretty crowded. There may have been an accident as the lane going eastward looked like a parking lot for a major part of our return.
I love our Hyundai KONA EV's adaptive cruise control. I just set it to 110 kph and it dealt with the areas near Langley where things nearly came to a stop. I kept the exact same speed as the vehicle in front of me. Kimchi used the brake or the throttle until we exited at Braid Street in New Westminster. Letting it control the speed makes a highway trip so stress-free.
We definitely need to decide on a destination for an August road trip. It's a shame that the other half of the province is on fire.
