A few weeks ago, we decided to spend just three months of our winter in Playa del Carmen. We got tickets to fly to Mazatlan for our remaining two months in Mexico. Since then, the Canadian government has instituted a number of restrictions on travel. However, none of the details were worked out before implementation. I think the Prime Minister is embarrassed by the slow rollout of COVID vaccinations and wanted to appear to be pro-active.
We suddenly find ourselves facing re-entry regulations that are only half in place and we are unable to find many important facts. We spent part of our afternoon going over the options we are sure of at the present time and weighing the pros and cons of alternative arrangements. In the end, we decided that proceeding as planned is our best route. That route means we'll be heading to Mazatlan and not home on Sunday.
Little did I know when snapping this picture from the Carnavial Pride in 2008, we'd have a two-month apartment lined up in the historical central section of Mazatlan, Mexico until April 2, 2021. Our return flights to Canada are now, figuratively, up in the air because we were booked on AeroMexico flights affected by Canada's half-closed borders. Hey, we have the time and money to spend two more months in the sunshine. During February, Vancouver is at the height of flu season in the best of years. I don't think spending time there is as safe as how we can live here.
