The sky was so blue today that after returning our recyclable bottles, we continued on to visit Burnaby Lake. It forms part of an extensive watershed but is just a stone's throw away from the bustle of Metrotown.

We had never walked to the lake from the far end. For 17 years I used to coast down Royal Oak on my way to BCIT. I often saw vehicles parked in a small area at the trailhead at the bottom of the hill.

Today, we parked there and walked to the far end of Burnaby Lake. I was surprised by a large number of trails and people out using them. We only walked a few kilometers but it was flat and the first section was rehabilitated marshland. The cacophony of the birds was in stark contrast to the muffled sounds of nearby highways.
