I should state however that I did get an email confirmation of acceptance as an evo.ca member. I can see the $2.24 annual fee hit my MasterCard. Although the 'key card' and other materials are in the mail, I can activate any of the hundreds of EVO Priuses in my home area with the app I downloaded for my phone. They even gave me thirty minutes of free driving time. I didn't have anywhere to go, but knowing that cars sit all around at my beck and call is interesting. I checked the app and found two sitting right across the street in front of our building at around 1:00 pm.

The beauty of this program is that they can be used and left anywhere throughout New Westminster, Vancouver, or North Vancouver. Drivers cannot park them in metered spaces or spaces reserved for one-hour parking. However, every other public place is 'fair game' which is why two were outside in spaces mandated for street residents. A number of dedicated parking locations exist as well. I'd guess that most trips in EVO cars are not round trips. People probably tend to 'borrow' another close-by vehicle when it's time to return. This situation frees up most all the cars for nearly constant use.
I do want to try driving a hybrid. There is actually a bit of time between when my truck insurance runs out and we leave for the winter. Rather than having to buy the absolute minimum of three months of insurance through ICBC, I think I'll see how well we can cope for a few weeks with just EVO. As there are even drop off points at YVR, I calculate that EVO will be cheaper for us to go and come from the airport than when the two of us use public transit.
I find this whole concept neat because it's a situation which is only possible today because of a bunch of relatively recent technological developments.
