I feel an immense connection to our home of Vancouver, but I have to admit that eighteen grey, rainy winters were trying! There's a type of shared misery in the depressing winters in which residents try to take solace, but that demonstration of masochism never felt quite right.
I love sunshine. I think skies are meant to be blue. Although not as warm as last winter, we picked the right place to spend this one. Luxor, Egypt gets an average of less than 1 mm of precipitation per year. Some years it does not rain at all. I may have to put on socks in the evenings, but I can be assured of getting my share of the 9 or 10 hours of sun per day.
