It wasn't long on the road before we came to the end of Highway 99. The real end. That is the one that used to be connected to US 99 before there was an Interstate 5. I've been on bits as far down as San Francisco, It went through SoCal to the Mexican border, I think. Again, it is nice not knowing things. There most definitely is no Internet in this campground and we're at least 25 miles from the nearest house.

Highway 97 ends up being a major north south route in this part of BC, so a lot of work has been done. Many sections are four lanes, other places three where the steep hills have been upgraded for vehicles to pass slow trucks. We went through 70 Mile House, 100 Mile House, Lake La Hache, and effortlessly into Williams Lake. We were following the Gold Rush route.

Chasm Provincial Park, 7 KM off Highway 97
Williams Lake downtown is cute. It was the first place today with enough people to support essential businesses. What I am trying to say is it's the first place we were where I'd even consider living. We stopped in a Safeway and bought a BBQ chicken to heat up for dinner. We ate at a Subway again before 2 pm as it's easy and convenient to share a foot-long and one monster drink.
We ate in the Subway looking out and could see BC Highway 20 our route back to the sea. There are only three places in BC where it's possible. We live in the Lower Mainland and we already did a circle trip through Prince Rupert years ago.

I know I will have photos of our little home for the night when I publish this post.

We may try to drive into Bella Coola straight tomorrow or first stop in one of the campgrounds in the South Tweedsmuir Provincial Park to set up. We'll see. Hey, we're retired; we can make up our own rules as we go along!
