My photo sphere tells a lot of the story of where we went today. Check the 360 degree views of the little paradise to which we hiked.
We left the apartment at about 10:15 this morning. We needed to walk just three blocks to catch a Mismaloya / Boca Tomatlan Bus. It is the first time we've been south of where we live! This is a shame because south of here is the area I really love the most about this area. Highway 200 didn't exist 50 years ago. It hugs the the edge of the mountains. Lots of condos and expensive houses look out over the lovely Pacific. In places, the water is frighteningly far below.
Buses leave every 15 minutes and ours was completely full. It took around thirty-five minutes to reach the end at Boca. One has to walk down to the town. We didn't linger and went directly to a bridge in order to cross the river. Once we'd done that we'd entered the town of Colomitos. Had it been low tide, we might have been able to ford across the area where it empties into the sea.
The trail was not hard to find, one just follows right by people's homes clinging to the cliffs along the edge of the water. It wan't long before we had to start climbing rather steep inclines as we headed to our destination of Playa Colomitos. Of course what goes up, must come down and we were no exception. Except as we headed down, we could see a tiny little bay with a pocket beach.
I was sweaty from the exertion. On the Internet we'd read that it was a 30 to 40 minute hike. I don't know how those braggarts found footing on the rocky trail at those speeds but it took us 50 to 60 minutes. After there, we knew we'd not continue on as many people do. They continue onward to Las Anamas beach with water-taxi service. Many sip a margarita and boat back. We decided to forgo that and enjoy our little, borrowed piece of paradise for an extended period. We had brought along a packed lunch, towels, and swimming attire.
It was an interesting day and, although secluded, we saw others here. Some boats drop people off and others were on their way hiking. We keep running into people from Vancouver in Puerto Vallarta. I guess that is why WestJet has direct flights.
We started back at 2:00 and it was 3:45 after we'd walked back to our apartment from the bus stop. It was a lovely way to spend a day in January. (I am wondering if I'll be at all sore tomorrow.)
