The Odds Favour the House

I'm not much of a betting man. By that I mean I get very little enjoyment from any type of gambling. Casinos are fun environments but I doubt I've wagered a total of $50 in my entire life. Of course, none of us can avoid playing the odds.

All types of insurance are bets. In the case of auto insurance, I'm literally betting that I will have an accident which will result in a claim. On the other hand, the insurance company is gambling that I won't. We all live knowing these basic rules. Incidentally, this situation sounds rather positive for I am certainly rooting for that big organization to be right!

Yet, now am having to make decisions involving the odds of own mortality. I am betting that I will stick around another 40 years; whereas, my pension fund would just as soon see me dead tomorrow.
