Day 3 - Old is Relative

I used to think grandmother was old. As a kid, almost everything happened before one appeared on the earth. Therefore, everything seemed old. As one matures, a fuller understanding of history develops. There's a better knowledge of personal and learned history. Still, even at my age and after years of learning, it is a little hard to wrap my head around the things I saw today.


Right off in the morning we went to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. It is about a fifteen minute walk from where we're staying. Some of the oldest evidence of human civilization is in that building.


It is humbling to touch artifacts which were crafted 5,000 years ago. Seeing how things developed through the different periods, helps one ponder the effects of technology and commerce. It was freak chance that many of these items made it to the light of day, but a little miraculous that I saw them within inches with my own eyes. What leaps in both space and time!
