Okay, Microsoft Windows and I go back a long, long ways. I first ran version 2.1 called Windows 286 by typing >win at a DOS prompt. That was during the latter half of the 1980's in the country of Bahrain! From then through today, I have hit every single itineration along that arduous upgrade path. The opening jingles, with the possible exception of the Millennium Edition, have been burnt into my brain. No, Margaret, I never had complaints nor problems with Windows Vista. May it rest in peace, though!
Well, wait a minute. Let's back it up a bit. I never officially ran Windows 8.0. An evaluation copy still runs on the media PC, but I never really bought a copy. So, I have honestly had a wonderful time getting up to speed with Windows 8.1. It adroitly walks the fence between a modern small device operating system and a heavy-duty workhorse OS.
Were it not for my need for a replacement netbook, I'd probably not have bothered with Microsoft at all. I couldn't quite jump to a Chromebook because Jay wouldn't feel comfortable giving up his familiar Windows applications. Yet now, after playing with the newest Windows, I sort of hope that it doesn't die away. I am probably too emotionally invested in Android to give a Win RT tablet a try. Yet, I can see the attraction in having the same OS across devices. I am a reluctant new fan of Microsoft, yet again.
