A Scary-Looking Seed

During Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, one topic of conversation involved the wide selection of world produce available in local supermarkets. We often run across fruits or vegetables we need to research. In the past, we have picked up items such as salak or jícama and learned how to eat them.

Today, we took the SkyTrain out towards King George to shop at the T & T Supermarket. While buying vegetables we saw these:



It seems that water caltrop are a familiar sight during the Chinese Autumn Festival. It's now that season, so this is probably why the supermarket chain is carrying them. You can read about devil pods here on Wikipedia.
