Spotting Sci-Fi Scenery

It's not often that I make many comments about specific TV programs in my eJournal and images. Today, however, I discovered the second season of Continuum had hit Netflix. I'm catching up on the episodes about five months after they were originally aired on Showcase.



I love science fiction and I like crime dramas. These two reasons alone would ensure that I watch it. Yet, I find it even more compelling as it is entirely filmed in Vancouver.

It seems as though there's an enormous pool of television sci-fi talent here. The local area has been featured for decades in classics as: The Original X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, and much of the Stargate series. It is fun to see local landmarks in each production. In today's inital episode I noticed the Vancouver Public Library, the Burrard Bridge, Vanier park, and a neighborhood in Richmond.

In many feature films, Vancouver ends up as just a stand-in for other cities. With today's TV program, for once, Vancouver is playing the role of Vancouver.
