There is not much to do today and Jay works Sundays now. I decided I might get out and let the rain wash off the truck. I drove over to Queensborough to stop in the Lowe's. I hadn't been inside since they opened back nearly two years ago. To be honest, I find big box stores rather scary. I mean they are a testament to consumption. Everybody seems so harried running back and forth finding ways to rack up debt. My feet are tired simply by walking around the acres of home improvement goods. I just wanted to see what refrigerators they had on display. Damn, I don't want aluminum finish. It was interesting to see the shower enclosures that can slide in where a bathtub fits. I left without anything. I vowed to stop again soon just to conquer my fears.
Equally, scary was the Walmart Superstore nearby. I found this place frightening not only due to the stacks of merchandise, but the people hell-bent on buying crap. I know the people in this world need jobs. I know that jobs making junk are what keeps the money changing hands. Yet, it all seems way too much. At times, I don't even feel normal because of my lack of lust in acquiring more-and-more stuff.
Oh, and did I mention it's raining ...
