I didn't want to highlight the beauty of Vancouver during this time of year. Rather, I simply want to talk about the mess of storing digital photos. I used to save religiously to an external hard drive. I started shooting with a digital camera in 2003, so there were hundreds, no thousands! Of course over the last few years, most photos of note have gone up on my Flickr account. I have over 10,000 online which are essentially safe and backed up. Sometimes in the real world though, I take far too many snaps. Remember when there were only 36 frames on a roll of 35mm film? One was never as snap happy as one can be today.
This leaves me with the problem of what to do with the photos not online but not stored as local backup. I started copying out to cloud services such as skydrive but that seems rather silly. I should simply face the fact most of them are not worthy of saving. I am really an armchair archivist in many ways. It seems a crime to delete computer files considering the cheap price of storage.
Moments ago, I nearly wiped out hundreds from Dropbox. They included the photo in today's entry. Now, I'm quite happy I had reservations about a massive cull.
