Jay is knocking down a high-growing jackfruit from the tree.
So much of what we eat here comes from around the house. The items are not enough to survive; they just supplement the diet. Some are just leaves or spices. Fruit comes sporadically. For example I almost had my fill of papaya when we got here. Only a few bunches of bananas were ready during our stay. Lately though Jay has gone slightly crazy over a surplus of:
jackfruit and jambu. (Click either name for Wikipedia entry.)
On Facebook I uploaded a number of Instagram pictures of jackfruit as some friends asked about them. These football or basketball sized fruit are not my most favourite. Jay could eat one all by himself, I swear. He's also a little bonkers about jambu. I think this is primarily because he hasn't had any in years. They come due about this time of year only.
Sri Lankan jambu are pinker when ripe.
In Canada, we hardly eat anything grown really near except a few vegetables from pots on the balcony in New Westminster.
