We left the town of Dambulla early today.
I feel a bit embarrassed about having made such a big deal about our little inconveniences yesterday. After all, some people are trying to recover from flooded homes and for others it is even worse. The media has reported that over 25 people have been killed as a result of these monsoon rains. On our walk through Dambulla, we passed the enormous agricultural distribution warehouses. My sandals remained wet but unlike yesterday, I wore socks. We passed the clock tower and within minutes a bus roared closer. Again, it was a re-routed one on its way from Vavuniya to Colombo. Being a long distance bus, I had to stand from Dambulla all the way to Nittambuwa. At times, there were many many more people aboard than what was comfortable or safe. Still, in the scheme of things, and compared to the plights of others, this is definitely small potatoes. The world would be a better place if people were forced out of their comfort zones more often.
We took a quick bus from our stop to Minuwangoda and hired a tuk-tuk to bring us directly to the front gate. It feels so nice to be drying out.
