No, I meant trouble comes in pairs. I noticed before leaving for the weekend last Friday, that my ADSL modem wasn't working. It was recently installed but had apparently already given up the ghost. I suspected a power supply problem. I called technical support as soon as it opened this morning and a technician arranged to ship me a replacement by post. I did walk uptown, however. I knew the Telus Mobility store in the mall would swap modems. They only had the type which included wifi but I own my own wifi router. I was hesitant but decided to take one. Their equipment works just fine, so I guess I will put away my router.
Also, the old PC, which had become my media server, has been acting flaky lately. I was getting crashes with the strangest error codes in the Win 8 evaluation copy! I wondered if it was a memory problem. After running the Windows memory test, I finally got it to agree. Hum. I pulled out several of the aging DDR2 DIMMS. It was a total turkey shoot. Of the four sticks which made up the 4GB, it could have been any. As they work in sets, I just shuffled the four and put two back into the initial slots. I successfully made it through a two-hour HD movie test on Netflix without a hitch.
I like it when troubleshooting apparently works out. That is my birthday gift today.
